How to Create Predefined Bundle Presets
4 min readIntroduction
Bundle Presets let merchants configure product bundles that support swapping between variants, used when bundle items need to be exchanged only under conditions the merchant defines. Bundle Presets work alongside Subscription Plans to control how customers can swap or fall back to alternative products within a bundle.
A note on this article’s accuracy: the current Bundle Preset creation screen shows a simpler set of fields, Preset Name, Preset Limit, and Bundle Products, than earlier internal documentation described, which detailed a two-variant structure requiring a separate Swapping Variant and Fallback Variant for every preset. It’s possible that structure has been simplified since that documentation was written, or that the Swapping and Fallback sections appear later in the same form after Bundle Products is configured. Confirm with support or against the live screen which of these is accurate before relying on this article for the full configuration flow.
Why It Matters
Bundle Presets help merchants:
- Control product swaps within defined limits
- Maintain bundle integrity across subscriptions
- Offer structured flexibility through swap and fallback options
- Reduce order inconsistencies caused by incorrect bundle quantities
This supports predictable fulfillment and accurate inventory management for bundles used within subscription plans.
How to Create a Bundle Preset
Step 1: Access Bundle Presets
- Log in to the Shopify admin portal.
- Open the Easy Subscriptions app.
- Select Features.
- Click Bundle.
- Select Bundle Presets.
- Click Create.
Step 2: Name the Preset
Enter the Preset Name.
Step 3: Set the Preset Limit
Enter the Preset Limit. This determines which bundle size the preset applies to. For example, a preset with a limit of 5 only applies to bundles that have 5 items; the Preset Preview reflects this as you set the value.
Step 4: Add Bundle Products
Under Bundle Products, add the products this preset should offer.
Step 5: Review and Save
Review the preset name, limit, and product selection, then save.
If Your Screen Shows Swapping and Fallback Variant Sections
Earlier documentation for this feature described two required variant groups for each preset:
- Swapping Variant → All products allowed for swapping, with their total quantity exactly matching the bundle limit. Swapping is only permitted when quantities are equal.
- Fallback Variant → Alternative products used when swapping isn’t applicable. Any number of products can be added here.
If your version of the Bundle Presets screen includes these sections, configure them as described above, ensuring the Swapping Variant’s total quantity exactly matches your Preset Limit, and using the Fallback Variant for backup products used when a swap can’t be applied.
Best Practice
- Make sure the Preset Limit matches the actual item count of the bundle it’s meant to apply to.
- If your screen includes Swapping and Fallback Variant sections, double check the swapping variant’s total quantity exactly equals the preset limit before saving.
- Test the preset’s behavior on a live bundle before making it available to customers.

Frequently Asked Questions
It ties the preset to a specific bundle size. A preset limited to 5, for example, only applies to bundles containing 5 items.
This depends on which version of the Bundle Presets screen you’re using. Current screens may present this more simply as a single Bundle Products list; confirm with support whether the swapping and fallback distinction still applies in your setup.
This isn’t detailed in available documentation. Contact support to confirm expected behavior when no preset limit matches a bundle’s actual item count.
Bundle Presets work alongside Subscription Plans to control swap and fallback behavior for bundles used within those plans.
Based on the Preset Limit’s described behavior, a preset applies to a specific item count. Confirm with support whether a single preset can cover multiple bundle sizes or whether a separate preset is needed for each size.
