How to Change the Date of the Next Subscription Delivery
3 min readIntroduction
The Next Order Reschedule feature lets merchants change the scheduled date of a single upcoming subscription order. This is used when a delivery date needs to move for operational, customer, or inventory related reasons, without affecting how the subscription is scheduled going forward.
This is a one-off, single order action. It’s worth telling apart from two similar sounding features:
- Reschedule Next Order moves the date of one specific upcoming order.
- Frequency Change adjusts how often the subscription recurs going forward, affecting every future order, not just the next one.
- Billing Date Scheduler automatically shifts the first billing date for any order created within a defined date range, applied in bulk rather than to one order at a time.
Why It Matters
Rescheduling an individual upcoming order helps merchants maintain accurate delivery timelines and manage one-off exceptions, such as a delayed shipment or a customer request to shift a single delivery, without disrupting the subscription’s underlying schedule.
How to Reschedule the Next Order
Step 1: Access Shopify Admin
- Log in to the Shopify admin panel.
- Navigate to Subscriptions.
Step 2: Open the Subscription
- The subscription list page displays all active subscriptions.
- Click on the subscription order you want to reschedule.
Step 3: Select the Upcoming Product
- Scroll down to view the list of Upcoming Products.
- Click on the product that requires rescheduling.
- On the right side, click the three-dot menu.
Step 4: Reschedule the Order
- Select Reschedule.
- Choose the new date for the upcoming order.
- Confirm the change.
Best Practice
- Review the new delivery date before confirming, since this applies directly to a live, upcoming order.
- Inform customers in advance if the reschedule affects their expected delivery timeline, particularly if the new date shifts significantly from the original.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. This reschedules the selected upcoming order only. Future orders continue to follow the subscription’s existing frequency unless that’s changed separately.
Frequency Change adjusts how often the subscription recurs going forward, affecting every future order. Rescheduling moves the date of one specific upcoming order without changing the ongoing cadence.
The Billing Date Scheduler applies a rule automatically to any order created within a defined date range, in bulk. Rescheduling here is a manual, one-off action taken on a single upcoming order.
This process reschedules one selected upcoming order at a time. For bulk date adjustments across many orders, use the Billing Date Scheduler instead.
Best practice is to inform the customer in advance, especially if the new date is a significant shift from what they were originally expecting.
