How to Set Up Dunning Management in Easy Subscriptions #

Dunning management refers to the process of handling failed subscription payments in a way that minimizes customer churn and revenue loss. With Easy Subscriptions, you can automate this process by configuring retry attempts, timing intervals, and actions after failed payments.

Why Dunning Management Matters #

Setting up dunning ensures:

  • Automated recovery of failed payments

  • Reduced involuntary churn

  • Improved cash flow and customer retention

  • Better control over subscription lifecycle management

Step-by-Step Guide to Configure Dunning in Easy Subscriptions #

Step 1: Access Easy Subscriptions Settings #

  1. Log in to your Shopify Admin.

  2. Go to Apps > Easy Subscriptions > Settings.

Step 2: Navigate to the Dunning Management Section #

  1. In the Easy Subscriptions Settings menu (left sidebar), click on Dunning Management.

Step 3: Enable Dunning Management #

  1. Toggle the setting for “Enable dunning management” to On.

  2. This activates the automated payment recovery process for failed subscription renewals.

Step 4: Configure Retry Attempts #

  1. In the Retry Attempts field, specify how many times the app should attempt to charge the customer again after a failed payment.

    • Example: Enter 3 to retry three times.

Step 5: Set Retry Interval #

  1. In the Days Before Retrying field, define the number of days to wait between each retry.

    • Example: Enter 1 to retry once every day after failure.

Step 6: Choose the Action After Final Retry Fails #

  1. Use the dropdown menu to select what should happen if all retry attempts fail:

    • Pause Subscription – The subscription is paused but not canceled.

    • Cancel Subscription – The subscription is automatically canceled.

    • No Action – No changes are made after final failure.

Choose the option that aligns with your business policy and customer experience goals.

That’s It! #

Once enabled and configured, Easy Subscriptions will automatically manage failed payments, retry them based on your setup, and take the selected action upon final failure. This helps you minimize revenue loss and reduce the operational burden of manual follow-ups.
