What is Easy Subscriptions? App Overview
5 min readWhat Easy Subscriptions Does
Easy Subscriptions turns products in a Shopify store into recurring, subscription based purchases. Customers can subscribe to receive a product on a repeating schedule, get pricing incentives for subscribing instead of buying once, and manage their own subscription afterward without needing to contact the merchant for routine changes.
Core Areas of the App
Subscription Plans
A Subscription Plan defines how a product can be purchased on a recurring basis: whether it’s subscription-only or offered alongside a one-time purchase, how often it bills and delivers, what discount applies, and a range of optional features like trial periods, auto-cancellation after a set number of orders, gift products, and product swapping or fallback rules. Plans can also be built around a bundle, a time based or order based product series, rather than a single product.
The Subscription Widget and Storefront Tools
The Subscription Widget displays subscription options directly on product pages, added through the Shopify theme editor. Related storefront widgets include a Quantity Breaker for tiered bulk pricing and a Bundle Widget for grouped products, both customizable in appearance and behavior. Quick Cart and Checkout Links let merchants generate shareable, pre-configured links for campaigns and outreach.
The Customer Portal
The Customer Portal gives subscribers a self-service area, reached through their Shopify customer account, where they can pause, skip, cancel, reschedule, or otherwise manage their own subscriptions depending on which permissions the merchant has enabled. This reduces the volume of routine subscription changes merchants have to process manually.
Bundles
Beyond single-product plans, Easy Subscriptions supports Fixed Bundles with preset products and pricing, Build Your Own Box for flexible, step-based customer selection, and Variant-Based bundles where customers choose only from predefined options. Bundle Presets manage swap and fallback rules for bundles used within subscription plans.
Growth Tools
Growth Tools cover features aimed at increasing conversion and retention: upsells on the product page and at checkout, Customer Retention flows that offer discounts or alternatives before a customer cancels or pauses, and Quick Cart and Checkout Links for targeted campaigns.
Settings and Operations
Operational settings cover Dunning Management for failed payment recovery, a Billing Date Scheduler for aligning billing with operational needs, Tags for tracking subscription orders and customers within Shopify, notification settings for both customers and admins, a preferred email for admin alerts, and Out-of-Stock handling to keep subscriptions accurate when inventory runs low.
Analytics
The Analytics dashboard covers revenue, cancellations, and inventory planning at a glance, with an Advanced Analytics option for deeper reporting on subscribers, payments, upsells, and fulfillment.
Migration
Merchants moving from another subscription app, or connecting an existing payment gateway like Braintree, Authorize.net, or PayPal Express, can migrate existing subscription data into Easy Subscriptions through a CSV import process, with dedicated guides for each gateway and for switching between subscription apps on the same gateway.
Why It Matters
Recurring revenue depends on more than just letting a customer check a subscribe box. Easy Subscriptions is built around the full lifecycle of a subscription, from how it’s first offered to how a customer manages or eventually leaves it, so merchants can run a subscription program without needing separate tools for billing, retention, and reporting.
Support

No. Most features, from bundles to growth tools to advanced analytics, are optional. A merchant can run a straightforward subscription plan without touching bundles, retention flows, or quick links at all.
Yes. Subscription Plans support a One-time Plus Subscription type, letting customers choose either option, or a Subscription Only type if you want the product available only on a recurring basis.
Yes, through the Customer Portal, provided the relevant self-service permissions, like pause, skip, or cancel, are enabled from the app’s settings.
If you’re switching subscription apps but keeping the same payment gateway, including Shopify Payments, the Standard Migration path applies. Gateway-specific migration is only needed if you’re also changing or connecting a new payment gateway.
