Post-Checkout Upsell — Setup & Best Practices #

Turn every completed checkout into an opportunity to increase Average Order Value (AOV). This guide walks you through enabling, configuring, testing, and analyzing Post-Checkout Upsell campaigns in Easy Subscriptions.

How it works #

The Post-Checkout Upsell feature shows an upsell offer immediately after customers complete checkout. When a customer accepts the upsell, the existing Shopify order is automatically updated with the added product(s) — no new checkout required and no disruption to fulfillment.

Before you begin #

  • Your upsell product(s) are already created in Shopify.
  • You have a published Shopify checkout and a publicly accessible Thank-You page.

1) Enable the Post-Checkout Upsell Feature #

  1. Log in to your Easy Subscriptions Admin Panel.
  2. From the left navigation, go to FeaturesUpsell & Cross-sell.
  3. Click Create Upsell.

2) Create a New Upsell Campaign #

Fill in the campaign details and set where the upsell should appear.

  1. Enter an Upsell Name — e.g., “Refill Add-On Offer” or “Upgrade Bundle Offer”.
  2. Subscription plan — select which subscription plans (if any) should trigger this upsell.
  3. Choose Product — select the product(s) to offer as the post-checkout upsell. You can select:
    • All products, or
    • Specific products (select SKUs).
  4. (Optional) Set a discount or special pricing for the upsell items.
  5. Display Settings — choose where/how the upsell appears:
    • Thank-You Page Widget: Post Checkout Upsell, Convenient Upsell
    • Product Page: for high-visibility, high-conversion offers
  6. Click Save & Continue.

3) Test your Post-Checkout Flow #

Run a quick live test to confirm the customer experience is correct before you go fully live.

  1. Place a test order on your store.
  2. After checkout, verify that the upsell modal or Thank-You page widget appears.
  3. If the upsell appears and accepts orders correctly, your campaign is working.

Tip: Use a low-cost SKU or a staff discount for test orders to avoid wasting margin.

4) Track performance #

Monitor the campaign in the analytics section to understand impact and optimize offers.

Go to Post-Checkout Upsell → Analytics and review metrics such as:

Impressions

How many customers saw the offer

Conversions

How many accepted the upsell

Accepted Products / SKUs

Which items perform best

Incremental Revenue

Additional income generated from upsells

Use these insights to iterate on product selection, language, and placement.

5) Best practices #

  • Offer complementary products — picks that make sense with the original order convert better than random suggestions.
  • Use time-sensitive language — e.g., “Add now before your order ships!”
  • Keep the upsell one-click simple — avoid lengthy choices that create friction.
  • Test different combinations of products and headlines regularly.
  • Combine upsells with subscription renewals for recurring AOV growth.

6) Future enhancements (coming soon) #

  • AI-powered upsell recommendations based on order and customer behavior.
  • A/B testing for headlines and product placements.
  • Tiered subscription upgrades (e.g., “Upgrade to Premium Plan”).
  • Integration with email/SMS tools for follow-up offers.

Summary #

The Post-Checkout Upsell feature transforms every Shopify checkout into a chance to increase revenue and delight customers. With smart triggers, curated offers, and a one-click experience, you can boost AOV while keeping the post-purchase journey smooth and on-brand.

Recommended next step: Create a small test campaign (1–2 offers) and measure conversion & incremental revenue for 7–14 days.
