Setting Up Post-Checkout Upsell Rules for Subscription Plans

The Upsell – Post Checkout feature allows merchants to present subscription-based product recommendations during checkout. This feature supports subscription adoption by prompting customers with relevant offers after their initial purchase decision.

Post Checkout upsells are commonly used to convert one-time buyers into subscription customers at the final stage of checkout.

 

Why It Matters #

Post Checkout upsells help merchants increase subscription conversions without interrupting the primary purchase flow. Customers receive relevant recommendations when purchase intent is high, improving the likelihood of adding a subscription product.

This approach supports recurring revenue growth while maintaining a smooth checkout experience.

 

How to Use Upsell – Post Checkout #

Step 1: Access the Feature #

  • Log in to the Shopify admin portal

  • Navigate to Easy Subscription

  • Click Features

Step 2: Create an Upsell #

  • Select Upsell & Cross-sell

  • Click Create Upsell

  • Enter the product name

  • Select Subscription as the subscription type

  • Click Save

Step 3: Configure Post Checkout #

  • From the placement dropdown, select Post Checkout

  • Add the product you want to offer as an upsell

  • Click Save

How It Appears in the Store #

Once configured, the upsell will appear during checkout based on the purchase type:

  • Subscribe & Save

    • During checkout, customers see the option to add the upsell product you configured.

  • Regular Purchase

    • During checkout, customers are prompted with the option to switch to a subscription.

  • Select upsell products that closely match the original purchase.
